Jayakrishnan Mohanan (Jay) is the principal founding lawyer of Jay Law. He is a dual-licensed lawyer with over 3 years of combined experience practicing law in India and Canada. During his time as a lawyer in India, he primarily appeared before the High Court of Kerala, which is the equivalent of the Court of Appeals in Alberta. His practice areas focused on criminal appeals, family law appeals, as well as constitutional and administrative law matters
After immigrating to Canada as a permanent resident, Jay completed the National Committee of Accreditation (NCA) equivalencies examinations. While working towards his NCA exams, he served as a legal coordinator at Haven Developments in Toronto, Ontario. In this role, he directly reported to the CEO and General Counsel of the firm. Jay’s responsibilities included drafting and reviewing commercial leases, as well as liaising with various departments within the firm, external law firms, and the City of Toronto.
Prior to his articling experience, Jay also worked as a real estate conveyancer. He then embarked on his articling journey with two major law firms in Edmonton, with each firm specializing in family law and criminal law. Jay’s diverse background and experiences in both India and Canada have provided him with a comprehensive understanding of various legal fields.
